Validic Domain(s) Certificate Error (SHA-1 Deprecation)

Last Updated: Aug 29, 2017 08:23AM EDT
Q: Why are we receiving a certificate error from validic.com domains? Is data security compromised?

The standards for HTTPS encryption and SHA algorithm requirements are being updated in 2016 from SHA-1 to SHA-2 and SHA-1 will be deprecated. Google recently pushed an updated 'warning' status for Chrome well in advance of the industry standard transition timeframe for moving from SHA-1 to SHA-2.

Rest assured all data and Validic sites are still in HTTPS and secure. Our engineering team is working to update our standards to bring them into compliance prior to the end of the year when the new standards take effect.

While the transition from SHA-1 to SHA-2 is an important security measure for us, we are also being cognizant of the fact that an immediate change may potentially disrupt our existing clients' access to our API. We will be making a similar 'warning' announcement to that of Google's well in advance of any changes regarding the deprecation and any associated effect to our clients when this change is to be implemented across all Validic services in order to allow for our clients to prepare for the change and transition smoothly the new SHA-2 standard.
